14 Straight Days of Class

Spent last week with Randy and Becky Hufford. We had a great time learning advanced color management and fine art digital printing. As always with Randy the week's highlight was working with canvas. Everyone in the class printed, coated, stretched, and finished their very own 18 x 24 gallery wrapped piece.

We made great use of our new studio and print space. With so many prints it was nice to be able to spread out and not be cramped at all.

We also spent some time learning a new album creation program called Album DS. In conjunction with that training, everyone was able to produce a small book of their images. We used the Unibind system to put it all together. If making a book interests you, check out Unibind. We're also considering the possibility of adding a few 2-3 day courses concentrating on printing and book binding.

Thursday we took a trip to Paso Robles to shoot the wine barrels and beautiful rolling hills. Of course, there was the obligatory barrel tasting and wine sampling.

If we hadn't done enough already, Friday saw us create some impressive 16 x 20 pieces printed on Premier Art media (www.premierart.info.) We experimented with the Smooth Velvet, the Watercolor, and the Platinum Rag. As many of you know I am new to the industry but the Platinum Rag is without a doubt my favorite media. It is one of the few (perhaps the only) media with a satin/lustre surface that can accept Matte Black ink. The prints off the Canon ipf 5100 on the Platinum Rag were spectacular.

Randy will be back in April to do it again. If you have ever wanted to work with canvas or any other fine art media, this is the class for you.
